The Browns Go West: Day 3 & Day 4

Wednesday 5/7/14

Sallisaw, OK - Santa Fe, NM

This might have been the most fun part of the driving trip. Putting behind the Sallisaw incident, we looked forward to the Cadillac Ranch in Texas! We stopped at a "Cherokee Trading Post" for souvenirs and squeezed in a Princess Tiana photo for OK.

We saw tumbleweed flying across the highway. Yes, tumbleweed is real. We also drove through Texas and New Mexico with 45 mph winds.

Cadillac Ranch is an open public art display where Cadillacs are sticking out of the ground. It sounds crazy, but very cool! It was also difficult to find since it doesn't have a direct address. All we knew it was off the interstate right after Amarillo, TX.

This is the point in the trip where the landscaped changed once again. This time from just flat to more red mud and rocks.

Driving through New Mexico with no service was very scary for me,  but also peaceful. The landscape was gorgeous and you see could storms in the horizon forming. It was something that can't be explained, but it will always be something my husband and I will share.

We had no idea when we would find a gas station again and we were at half a tank. We decided to pull over to what looked like was abandoned gas station on Route 66 and prayed they were open! Thankfully they were, but were also a little sketchy. The lady kept talking about my wedding ring, but at least I got to use one of these?! Silver lining?

The Santa Fe Sage Inn was fantastic! Such an 180 degree to Sallisaw.

Handmade cabinet under the bathroom sink.

Santa Fe will be forever in our memories as the BEST burgers and margaritas we've ever had... hands down! Cowgirl BBQ was fantastic! It was seriously such a relief to be blessed with such a wonderful evening and really made us count our blessings.

Thursday 5/8/14

Santa Fe, NM - Flagstaff, AZ

First stop on this day was Albuquerque, NM to see "Walter White's" house from Breaking Bad.

The owner doesn't mind you taking photos of her home, but make sure to stay off her property.

Once we got to Arizona the mesas became HUGE! They were very beautiful and it was at this point where I started to become grateful. Grateful to truly experience all the beauty that our country holds. Sadly not many people will travel across the country to see it all, but I surely do recommend it. This is also where the fatigue from the trip hit me and it hit me like a ton of bricks. We needed to stop for about 30 mins at a gas station to wake up and the awful part... no Starbucks in sight! There was no service I couldn't play my Elvis Duran and the Morning Show on iheart radio to wake me up. I was done listening to my CDs in the car and resorted to playing my only dance music on my phone.  I could see civilization in the horizon after 40 mins. I was never so happy to see a city! We made it to Flagstaff and we were able to see Humphrey's Peak from our hotel.
